The term Monongahela means ‘Falling Banks’ as derived from the Native Americans in the Unami Language. The concept explores the meaning of the river by creating a unique experience for viewers to engage in and discover something new as they walk through Fayette St. By creating a dynamic experience the viewer is guided to enjoy a day at High St., experience a sense of wonder through Fayette St. and explore the water activities and views of the Monongahela River.The site connects High Street to the Monongahela Riverfront through Fayette Street in a series of water features to connect the pedestrian to the elements of green infrastructure. The site incorporates a water play area, rain garden, bioswales, water stream, boardwalk, and waterfall. The site resolves issues of stormwater management, pedestrian access, river remediation, and urban heat island effect.
