Hazelwood green becomes a quilt stitching both sides of the landscape from the Monongahela River in the east to the neighboring Pittsburgh districts in the west. The transversal stitches running through the site create biophilic corridors for passers by. Each stitch creates an experience and these include urban agriculture through the attached townhome units, seasonal flower gardens through Flower Ave., picnic boulevard through Hazelwood Ave., a park connecting 2nd Ave. to Mill 19 park, and pocket parks running from the hillside to the riverfront. The site invites the surrounding Hazelwood neighborhood by connecting existing streets into the site and interpreting the vernacular residential fabric. From the north side, the site creates an office district that connects with the adjacent downtown Pittsburgh.
